The Wentzville Schools Foundation has awarded the $1000 Westermeier Memorial Scholarship to 10 deserving Wentzville high school seniors.
This is the first year for the scholarships, which will be awarded annually to students in the Wentzville School District, five at both Holt and Timberland High School.
This year’s scholarship recipients from Holt are Lauren Bigelow, Austin Gerlt, Willis Hertweck, Lydia Michel, and Tim Schantz.
The winners from Timberland are Samantha Cooper, Kelly Dunlap, Rachel Faulkner, Joe Trammel, and Emily Wall.
The recipients of these scholarships must be outstanding Wentzville high school seniors who intend to pursue a post-secondary education. Criteria for selection include a cumulative GPA in the top 25% of the class, an ACT/SAT score at or above the national average, and record of good citizenship, community service, extra-curricular activities, and good attendance. Applicants must also write an essay about their educational and career goals.
“The donation from the estate of Mrs. Westermeier was a wonderful and generous gift,” said Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams. “We have a lot of great students in our high schools, and these Foundation scholarships help our deserving seniors with their college education.”
The Wentzville Schools Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to develop community support for public education and for the students of the Wentzville School District. Every year the Foundation gives thousands of dollars worth of mini-Grants to District teachers to encourage excellence through innovative teaching and learning, and also gives thousands of dollars worth of scholarships to the graduating seniors of the District. The Foundation is funded primarily through donations and annual fundraising efforts like the Foundation Trivia Night and the Wentzville Rotary 5K Run/Walk.
