The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced on Dec. 12 that the Wentzville R-IV School District has once again earned the “Distinction in Performance” award.

The district met 14 out of 14 standards related to academic achievement in the 2007-08 school year, and therefore, will receive its third consecutive “Distinction in Performance” award from the state of Missouri.

The evaluation categories include: Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores; ACT scores; the number of students taking advanced courses and career education courses; college placement; vocational placement; graduation rate and attendance.

“We are honored to receive this elite award designation for our school district, and I know that it could not have been achieved without the dedicated efforts of students, faculty, staff, district families, the Board of Education, the communities we serve and our administration,” said Superintendent Terry Adams. “I am confident that we will continue to preserve our Accredited with Distinction status and remain one of the best school districts in Missouri.”

Stan Johnson, Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education said, “To earn this award, a district must be doing well, or making consistent progress in all areas of academic performance. Parents and patrons should be proud if their school district has earned this honor.”

Under the state’s accreditation process, known as the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), each school district is evaluated at least once every five years.

The “Distinction in Performance” award is based on the same criteria used in the accreditation process, and it provides an annual confirmation and recognition of a district’s consistent performance.
