Over 100 people were in attendance as the fire district honored twelve of its members for their length of service to the citizens of the Wentzville Fire Protection District. Fire Chief Randy Bornhop presided over the event.
Length of service awards were given to Freddie Friedmann, Joel Rydberg and Pat Szarwinski for three years; Joe Heitkamp for ten years: Scott Dee, Mike Czerniewski, John LeDoux, Carol Urban and Chris Newbold for fifteen years; Chris Cuddihee for twenty years and Ray Hoelscher for twenty-five years of dedicated service to the citizens of the Wentzville Fire Protection District. The fire district also honored a local citizen and a local business for their assistance to the Wentzville Fire Protection District and to the community. Mr. Art Genasci and his wife Leta were recognized with a plaque. Mr. Genasci was the first person to arrive at the scene of a structure fire. After first making sure everyone was out and safe, he used his phone to video tape the fire’s progression. This video was given to the fire district and is being used as a training tool.
The fire district also honored a long time business in the Wentzville community with the Clinton Prinster Memorial Community Service award. This award is given to a business or individual for their dedicated service not only to the fire district but to the community. The 2010 Clinton Prinster Memorial Community Service award was given to the Pitman Funeral Home.
