The Wentzville School District will begin offering General Educational Development (GED) preparatory classes at Timberland High School this September. The District, in conjunction with the St. Charles Community College (SCC) Adult Education and Literacy program, will offer free classes for individuals interested in obtaining their GED credential. The classes provide preparation for the GED tests as well as instruction in reading, writing and math. One-on-one tutoring, official GED practice tests, and computer-aided instruction are all benefits of the program.

“Our Board of Education asked us to pursue this option, and we are excited to offer this service to the entire Wentzville School District community,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Melody Marcantonio. “When we met with SCC Associate Dean of Extended Learning Diane Schroeder, she shared our enthusiasm and pursued grant funding for the program. We are grateful for her assistance.”

To sign up for the first session which begins on September 7, 2010, students are required to enroll in person at Timberland High School. Registration is from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. on both Monday, August 30 and Wednesday, September 1, and students must attend both sessions. Students are given an initial assessment to determine test readiness and provide information for an individualized learning plan. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and students must attend two full classes per week for at least one month of classroom instruction. Individuals must be at least 17 years of age to enroll in GED classes, and new sessions will start on the first week of every month through May.
