Timberland Theatre Department Presents “Hairspray”
April 3, 2011
Wentzville, MO
Since January, Timberland High School students have been practicing their dance moves and warming up their vocal cords for this year’s spring musical Hairspray in the Carl E. Reininger Theatre. Performance nights include April 7, 8, and 9 with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and the curtain rising at 7:30 p.m.
“Hairspray” follows the touching and fun story of Tracy Turnblad (Ashley Berg), a girl with a passion for dance and style, not to mention a heart of gold. With that golden heart she turns Baltimore upside-down. Luck is on her side and she gets cast into the local dance program, "The Corny Collins Show,” as one of the Nicest Kids in Town. The segregation of the show appalls her, and she works with Seaweed (Mitchell Greer) and the gang to racially integrate the show. Standing in their way are Amber (Tyler Hall) and her mother, Miss Baltimore Crabs herself, Velma Von Tussle (Anna Silliman). Meanwhile, Tracy is in competition for Miss Teenage Hairspray, all the while attempting to win over the dreamy Link Larkin (Riley Anderson). Tracy goes through thick and thin to overcome the monumental obstacles that keep her from her goals, keeping her hopes high and remembering that dreams can come true.
Actors and crew alike are preparing for a night of lights, music and action to capture the audience’s ear as well as their heartstrings. Everyone is welcome to attend an evening of laughs and compassion for these loving characters and their stories. Tickets, purchased at the door, sell for $5 for adults and $4 for students. Senior Citizens (age 65 and older) are admitted at no charge. Get there early for first-come-first-served seating, and sit front row for the latest that Timberland Theatre has to offer!
