Frontier Middle School students demonstrated their love of reading when they turned out in record numbers, as 200 students and 24 staff members met for the April READ meeting in the Frontier library.
READ (Read, Eat And Discuss) is a volunteer leisure reading group for Frontier students and staff, who select a title to read from a list of books and then meet two to three weeks later for a small group discussion while enjoying lunch together.
“The goal of Frontier’s READ program is to bring together staff and students who appreciate reading,” said Librarian Missy Henke. “READ meetings promote the development of good communication skills and they allow staff and students to meet and enjoy the company of new friends and good books.”
READ meetings are designed to be student-lead discussions. Staff members have also read the books, and they are there to help start and maintain appropriate conversations.
