New Wentzville schools open

Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies were held on Thursday, August 12 at Discovery Ridge and Lakeview Elementary schools to celebrate the official opening of the schools to students and families.
Discovery Ridge is located at 2523 Sommers Road between Highway N and Highway DD in O’Fallon. It is the home of the Stars, and Principal Laura Bates along with her staff welcomed 422 new students Monday, the first day of classes in the Wentzville School District.
Lakeview Elementary is located at 2501 Mexico Road, north of Highway 70 between Lake Saint Louis and Wentzville. It is the home of the Lions, and Principal Doug Holler along with his staff welcomed 597 new students when their bell rang for the very first time Monday.
At the Discovery Ridge ceremony, Principal Bates welcomed students and parents to their new building. Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams and Board of Education President Michael Cecil both spoke about the excitement that comes with opening a new school and the vast opportunities for its students. The ceremony was followed by Meet the Teacher Night, where students and parents could visit classrooms and meet their teachers for the first time.
At the Lakeview Elementary ceremony, Principal Holler welcomed attendees and described his anticipation for the journey that lies ahead.
“Being part of opening a new school is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for each of us,” Holler said. “Right now, we have a unique opportunity to do something special – to create a school culture where learning, excellence, commitment and community are valued.”
Board of Education members, District Administrators, elected officials and officers from the Wentzville Chamber of Commerce were all on hand for the events. Both schools were built with funds from the 2008 school bond issue.
