The Wentzville School District Board of Education voted on March 18, 2010 to name the District’s newest elementary schools, which will be opening this fall.

The new building on Mexico Road will be called Lakeview Elementary and the new building on Sommers Road has been named Discovery Ridge Elementary. Students who will be attending the new schools submitted their ideas through a school naming contest and the final submissions were presented to the Board of Education by Superintendent Dr. Terry Adams. The winning entry for Discovery Ridge was submitted by first grader Sophia Whalley.

“The name Discovery Ridge represents the rigorous and hands-on learning that students will be engaged in each day,” said Discovery Ridge Principal Laura Bates. “A caring learning environment will support all students. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the entire school community as we build the values and traditions of Discovery Ridge.”

Students and staff also worked together to choose a mascot and colors for their new school. Discovery Ridge’s mascot will be a star, and they chose blue and silver for their school colors.

The idea to name Lakeview Elementary came from ten different students in kindergarten through 4th grade. The students are:

Sari Andrews—Mrs. Zak 1st Grade
Kaelyn Bertel—Ms. Bode Kindergarten
Kurtis Bertel—Mrs. Nanny 4th Grade
Junior Hernandez—Mrs. Allen 2nd Grade
Nathan Lenac—Mrs. Kennedy 2nd Grade
Brooke Merz—Mrs. Telle 4th Grade
Gracyn Pietrusinski—Mrs. Kennedy 2nd Grade
Jacob Rothenberger—Mrs. Schulte 2nd Grade
Hana Scheuermann—Mrs. Hoffman 1st Grade
Jacob Schneider—Mrs. Schulte 2nd Grade

“We are very excited about the selection of Lakeview as our school name,” said Lakeview Principal Doug Holler. “We were encouraged by the large number of students who participated in the school naming contest. We remain committed to involving students, staff and parents in important decisions as we continue to develop our new school community.”
