Menier achieves national certification

The Wentzville School District is proud to announce that Hester Menier, Art Teacher at Duello Elementary, has achieved National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
Teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met rigorous standards through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment, and peer review. The Wentzville School District is committed to having the best trained and most highly qualified teachers. In order to support this goal, the District Professional Development Committee (DPDC) sponsors up to two teachers annually in their quest for National Board Certification.
The application process takes a year to complete and requires candidates to submit four portfolios and take six exams. According to Menier, the application process requires a teacher to examine the entire teaching process from content to application and through reflection.
“It is seen as a continual and never-ending process to provide the best instruction, and this was probably as thought provoking, intense and stressful as getting my master’s degree,” said Menier. “It has changed the way I approach lessons and deliver information. This experience will also help me to train future teachers and mentor current teachers.”
Dr. Susan Gauzy, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, said “We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Menier, her dedication to her profession, and her dedication to her students. Attaining National Board Certification demonstrates Hester’s commitment to excellence. As Wentzville’s first recipient, Hester is our shining star and a model for other teachers. BRAVO!”
In a congressionally mandated study, National Board Certification was recently recognized by the National Research Council as having a positive impact on student achievement, teacher retention, and professional development.
