The flag at Pearce Hall was officially raised for the first time on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 with the help of a well known local veteran, Carl Reininger. Students in the Wentzville School District’s Alternative Program and Missouri Options Program looked on as the veteran and former school board member raised the flag at the entrance to the building.

Mr. Reininger spoke to the students about the historical significance of the flag, explained why it is folded thirteen times, and talked about the history behind such traditions as “Taps” and flag displays at military funerals.

Holt senior Drew Whaley said he was moved by what Reininger had to say. “I think this is important because people our age tend to forget about what someone like Carl has done for our country.” Carl Reininger served on the Wentzville Board of Education for three terms between 1975 and 2001, and the theater at Timberland High School bears his name.

The Wentzville School District purchased the building in April of this year from Immanuel Lutheran Church, and relocated its Alternative Program to the facility in July. In September, students voted to name the building Pearce Hall.
