Wentzville, MO
On the final day of Lakeview Elementary’s first school year, the students and staff held an assembly to contribute items for a time capsule that will be buried for 50 years. The idea came from parent Darci Jeffrey-Andersen, who suggested the capsule to the PTA last fall. “We are hoping that in 50 years some of these students will come back for the opening, and remember today and see how much the school has changed,” she said.
Students were excited to contribute, and items that went into the capsule included several newspapers, a lunch menu, and an informational brochure from Proposition 3. “It teaches students about the future, about celebrating who you are and where you want to go,” said Assistant Principal Holly Ellis. “It also captures the very special opportunity of opening a new school.”
The different grade levels and special areas contributed the following items to the time capsule:
Kindergarten – a letter about what they want to be when they grow up
1st Grade – What’s popular on television
2nd Grade – What’s popular in clothes
3rd Grade – What are the best movies this year
4th Grade – What’s happening in sports
5th Grade – What’s going on in government
Front office – Current events in Wentzville
Music – What are kids listening to these days
Physical Education – What are the current trends in fitness
Computers – The latest tech gadgets and hot websites for kids
Library – What books kids are reading
Art – what kids are working on in class
PTA – Successes and challenges of the first year
