Students at Frontier Middle School finished their fourth annual canned food drive with overwhelming success. The school had set an ambitious goal of 10,000 cans, but students smashed that goal by bringing in 28,459 cans, and that includes actual canned goods and monetary donations that counted as three cans per dollar!

The Student Council sponsored the drive and encouraged teachers to get students motivated. Various teams held internal competitions including boys vs. girls and “teacher match day” to help increase participation.

Teachers also encouraged students to involve the entire community in the effort. Some students went door to door in their neighborhoods, loading cans in the family wagon.

Frontier was able to donate four full pickup trucks of canned goods and almost $5,400 to the St. Patrick’s St. Vincent De Paul Society the week before Christmas.

The St. Vincent De Paul Society helped more than 800 clients last month, and is expecting the demand to increase in the coming year.
