Skating competition offers entertainment;
relief from heat

Get out of the summer heat and enjoy the ice cool St. Peters Rec-Plex Summer Get-A-Way Ice Skating Competition for free to the public. This competition will host figure skaters from the St. Louis region on July 17, 2010 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex South Arena.
Figure skaters will compete in solo and duet competitions in some interesting categories, including Footwork, Interpretive (skaters hear music pieces for the first time and must create a program from scratch), Rhythmic (skating with a ball, hula hoop, or ribbon), and Surprise events (random and creative events ranging from races across the ice sitting on buckets to kicking a balloon across the ice without popping it).
The St. Peters Rec-Plex Summer Get-A-Way is endorsed by the Ice Skating Institute and open to the public to watch. The Ice Skating Institute is an international industry encompassing all aspects of the ice skating industry. This competition will bring in 75 figure skaters around the region to perform. The event on July 17 is scheduled for 1 to 7 p.m.
