School on lockdown after possible shooting

Fairmount Elementary School in the Francis Howell School District is on exterior lockdown after being notified of a possible shooting in a subdivision near the school.
The Francis Howell School District’s Facebook wall post from 12:30 p.m. on April 7, 2011 read:
“FHSD was notified of a possible shooting in a subdivision near Fairmount Elementary. Law enforcement does not believe that there is an immediate threat to our schools. However, as a precautionary measure, we will be going into exterior lockdown to limit the outside access to students. When schools go into exterior lockdown, school activity goes on as normal inside the building and there is no outside school activity.”
The St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department is searching for the suspect. Fairmount Elementary School is located at 1725 Thoele Road in St. Peters.
