The Graduate movie reference aside, there’s some news on the plastics front in St. Peters. Recycling of plastics, that is.

On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14 and 15, St. Peters’ Recycle City will celebrate America Recycles Day. They are introducing a new plastics program which now accepts #3, #5 and #7 plastic bottles, jars and cups in addition to the already-approved #1 and #2 containers.

Those bringing recyclables on Friday, Nov. 14, will receive a Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb, while supplies last. Replacing a traditional incandescent light bulb with a CFL bulb will use less electricity and prevent greenhouse gas emissions, which lead to global climate change.

St. Peters residents, who sign the Pledge to Recycle sheet and bring in recyclables on Nov. 14, will also receive an entry into the 2008 Wild About Recycling Contest grand prize drawing.

In addition…aluminum cans brought to the aluminum buy-back area between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 or between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, will earn you a premium of 2 cents per pound above normal rates for aluminum. Rates subject to change. Current rates can be found at www.stpetersmo.net under “Recycle City.” Search “Aluminum Can Program.”

Recycle City is located at 131 Ecology Drive in St. Peters.
