A fire destroyed two residential units on Northwoods Lane in the Sun River Village Apartments in St. Peters Sat. night. The fire is said to have been started in a BBQ fire pit, but officials are still investigating the cause.

According to Assistant Fire Chief, Steve Brown, Central County Fire and Rescue received the call at about 6:22 p.m. Heavy smoke was visible when the crew arrived at the scene. The fire went to two alarms; 18 fire vehicles and 46 personnel responded.

Everyone got out of the residences safely and there were no injuries. The St. Charles County Red Cross was also on the scene with a victim assistance unit.

Brown stated that the two apartment units were located at the end of a building, so fire fighters were able to isolate the fire. Damages are estimated to be about $76,000.
