Activities galore in Fort Zumwalt School District

Students and faculty in the Fort Zumwalt School District have been very busy. Here’s a recap:

Fort Zumwalt Forest Park Elementary School recently held their Celebrate the Arts evening. The event offered performances by the Sign Language Club, the 5th Grade Handbell Choir, the 4th Grade Recorder Band, the 3rd Grade Treble Makers, as well as a book fair and art display.

Forest Park Elementary School also celebrated their Read Across America Week. During their breakfast with books period, the cafeteria was filled with families reading Dr. Seuss books.

On March 11, DuBray Middle School held their annual talent show. Acts included dancing, singing, gymnastics, percussion and piano performances, and much more.

The Picture the Music winners from district elementary schools were in attendance at the March 21 Board of Education meeting. The district prided itself on receiving 32 of the top 100 awards presented at the award ceremony on February 23 at Powell Hall. The top 100 were chosen out of 16,000 entries.

Local high school juniors received the Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Science at a ceremony held at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Jessica Seiler, East High School; Taylor Rohan, North High School; and Brett Blake, South High School received this honor in the STEM disciplines. STEM refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Nichole Parker, third grade student at Lewis & Clark Elementary School was recognized along with her art teacher, Diane Papageorge, at the March 21st Board of Education meeting. Nichole received the Governor’s Mansion Award and has a piece of her artwork displayed in the governor’s mansion in Jefferson City, MO. Diane was recently honored as the MAEA Elementary Art Educator of the Year at a ceremony in Springfield, MO.
