Vehicle catches fire; driver charged

An accident occurred Friday which resulted in a vehicle fire and the driver being charged with DWI, Assault 2nd and resisting arrest.
On July 23 at about 12:05 a.m., Terry L. Schnelting, 25, of Fenton, was driving a 1998 Dodge RAM eastbound on Interstate 70, west of Highway 94.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Schnelting lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to exit Interstate 70 at Highway 94. The vehicle struck the median barrier and traveled on the median wall before catching on fire.
Schnelting received moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital East by St. Charles County Ambulance. An occupant in the vehicle, Sarah M. Meadows, 25, of St. Charles, received minor injuries and was also taken to St. Joseph Hospital East by St. Charles County Ambulance.
Schnelting and Meadows were both wearing seatbelts during the accident.
At 2:28 a.m. Schnelting was charged with DWI, Assault 2nd and resisting arrest.
