Input sought about library director selection

St. Charles County, MO
After a 34-year tenure, Carl R. Sandstedt will retire as St. Charles City-County Library Director on December 31, 2010. Sandstedt has been the guiding force which made the district a top 10 American library for the past 10 years.
A nationwide search for a new director began in March of 2010. The Library Board of Trustees hired Jobeth and Dan Bradbury, Bradbury Associates/Gossage Sager Associates of Kansas City, Missouri. They are former Missouri Library Directors and now specialize in director recruiting.
“The Library Board of Trustees has prepared for this transition. We intend to select a successor who will maintain the excellent and efficient service the public expects, and also identify and prioritize further enhancements,” said Library Board President Greg Dohrman.
Twenty-six candidates were presented to the Library Board in September. The Board chose eight semi-finalists and then narrowed it down to four. One finalist withdrew her application, stating personal reasons.
“The Board is excited about having three outstanding finalists to choose from,” said Dohrman.
The three finalists are:
Jim Brown, Manager of the Spencer Road Branch of the St. Charles City-County Library;
Larry Frank, former Senior Director of Library Services of the Knox County Public Library System in Knoxville, TN; and
Jon Walker, Executive Director of the Pueblo City-County Library District in Pueblo, Colorado.
There will be an open public forum with the three finalists on Friday, October 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kathryn Linnemann Library, 2323 Elm Street in St. Charles.
“This is an important decision for the entire community,” said Dohrman. “We strongly encourage as many St. Charles County residents as possible to attend the forum and provide feedback that will help us to select the best person to be their new Library Director.”
Final interviews will occur on October 22 and 23. The Library Board of Trustees hopes to name a new director by October 30, 2010.
