Income guidelines change for WIC program
June 12, 2011
St. Charles, MO
To provide more assistance to the area’s growing families, the St. Charles County Department of Community Health and the Environment and the State of Missouri has extended the income guidelines for those interested in participating in the Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC). The new guidelines are effective through March 31, 2012.
Through WIC, the Division of Public Health provides specific nutritious supplemental foods and nutrition education at no cost to pregnant and breastfeeding women, postpartum women, infants, and children up to age five. The WIC program, which is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is based at the St. Charles County Division of Public Health office at 1650 Boone’s Lick Road in St. Charles. Persons interested in applying for WIC or in need of more information should contact the WIC office at (636) 949-7402 or visit www.scchealth.org.
“We know many people are struggling in today’s economy, and this program is designed to help,” Doris Zastrow, St. Charles County WIC program coordinator, said. “It’s important that mothers and their children receive proper nutrition during this crucial developmental period, so we hope that those who would like help will contact us for assistance. Families who weren’t previously eligible for WIC because of their income level may now qualify as a result of these extensions or due to a change in their work status.”
WIC participants are persons who meet the WIC income guidelines shown below and are determined by health professionals to be at nutritional risk. For these guidelines, an unborn child counts as a member of the family when income eligibility is determined.
