Fatal accident early Sunday morning

On Jan. 4, 2009 at about 3:30 a.m., Adam. J. Montgomery, 25, of St. Peters was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero northbound on Missouri Route 94.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol: Montgomery failed to stop for a red light and began to turn left onto Pralle Lane.

At that time, a 1997 Nissan Altima, driven by Matthew T. Salmi, 25 of St. Charles was heading southbound on Missouri Route 94.

The front of the Altima struck the right side of the Alero.

An occupant in the Alero, Troy W. Montgomery, 22, from Carrollton, IL was pronounced dead at 4:33 a.m. at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur.

Two other occupants in the Alero suffered serious injuries and were taken to St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles. They are: Joseph W. Dicken, 23, of Macon, MO and Zachary L. Shaffer, 21, of St. Peters.

Adam Montgomery suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur by St. Charles County Ambulance.

The driver of the Altima, Matthew T. Salmi, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles.

Adam Montgomery was charged with Felony Manslaughter and Misdemeanor DWI.

Salmi was charged with Misdemeanor DWI.

Salmi was wearing a seat belt. It is unclear whether the others in the accident were wearing theirs.
