Driver seriously injured after vehicle strikes tractor trailer

On Thursday, Aug. 5, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Michael D. Hanks, 30, of Centralia, was driving a 2008 Freightliner tractor trailer and was stopped for a red light on Highway 94 just east of Zumbehl Road.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, James K. Davis, 26, of St. Charles, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger and failed to observe the stopped vehicle. The Ford Ranger struck the rear tow unit of the tractor trailer.
An air-ambulance was dispatched, but weather concerns prevented it from reaching the scene. Davis suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Health Center by St. Charles County Ambulance.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts during the accident.
