The 1979 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Division II National Champion Missouri State field hockey team was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2010. This exceptional team from Missouri State included Dana Polk, South Middle School physical education teacher.
When the Bears advanced to nationals, they won four straight to capture the crown, outscoring their opponents 13-0. Their season record was 28-2-1 and the team still holds the school records in both most goals scored and fewest goals allowed.
Dana is now included in the company of other great athletes that have been inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame such as Tom Pagnozzi (former Cardinal catcher), Marty Schottenheimer (former KC Chiefs football coach) …just to name a few.
