Compete against area’s best at SKATEFEST 2009
from the St. Charles County Parks Department
July 8, 2009
Dardenne Prairie, MO
The St. Charles County Parks Department’s Youth Activity Park (YAP) will host its fourth annual skateboard competition on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the park (located at 7801 Highway N in Dardenne Prairie—near the intersection of Highway N and Highway 40). Nearly 100 skaters from throughout the Metropolitan Area participated in last year’s event—making SKATEFEST one of the largest organized skate competitions in the area.
Held throughout the day (9 a.m. to finish) in the YAP’s 33,000-square foot skate park, SKATEFEST will crown St. Charles County’s best skaters in Street and Bowl Jam competitions. The Street event will be broken into four levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Skilled and Sponsored); while the Bowl Jam event will be open to “Intermediate,” Skilled,” and “Sponsored” level skaters. Prizes and medals will be awarded to winners in each category, and all participants in the beginner level will receive a ribbon for accomplishment—as the goal for this event is to inspire developing skaters and help them to achieve their potential.
The cost for SKATEFEST is $20 per event entered, with entrants receiving a T-shirt (sizes guaranteed if participant registers before August 1, 2009). Registration applications are available at the YAP (7801 Highway N in Dardenne Prairie) or online at www.stccparks.org. Registrations must be received by August 10, 2009. For more information, please call the YAP at 636-561-4964.
In addition to the main competition events, several free contents will be held throughout the day. The Highest Ollie and Best Trick competitions are open to entrants in the two main events—although to compete in both of these free contests, a person must be enrolled in both Street and Bowl Jam competitions. Informal competitions will also be offered for participants and park guests in various locations during down times in the competition. Areas of the park not in use during the competition are open to free skating, and several additional surprises are planned for guests.
To add to the day’s fun, the YAP will stay open until midnight for all ages during this special event. Admission for this Late Skate is $5, and the session will run from 4 p.m. to midnight. Participants in SKATEFEST will enjoy free admission to this activity, if they wear their competition wristband or the event T-shirt. Those attending must comply with park rules and be a registered member of the park.
